Our intrepid swimmers. The lady in the yellow swimming hat is Beth French, the Ocean Swimmer who took part in the opening.

The Taunton Soroptimists‘s 30th anniversary got off to a great start with their 30th Swimathon.

Nearly £14,500 has been pledged so far, a figure that we are hoping will rise significantly when all the money is in, and over 4,000 laps were swum.  The money raised will be divided 50% to St. Margaret’s Somerset Hospice and 25% each to the Taunton Foodbank Project and Mind in Taunton and West Somerset.

We would like to thank all those who swam on our behalf – the donations will go towards the Foodbank Development Project.

Taunton Foodbank is outgrowing its premises due to increased demand for its services.  With this in mind the Foodbank is going to take over the entire warehouse it currently rents part of.  The money the Foodbank receives from the Swimathon will be used to help fund the alterations needed to the building.  When the alterations are complete the Foodbank will have not only have the much needed extra space to store food, but also extra space to be to be able to provide a wider range of services to its recipients, such as a benefit advice service.

You can listen to the event on Taunton ToneFM which gives a great feel of the event.
