Amazing Effort from a 6 year old

14th October 2019

Taunton Foodbank was the beneficiary of an amazing initiative from 6 year old Thea Miles of St Andrews Church School.

Thea set herself 30 reading challenges over the summer holidays and raised £243 which in turn bought 154kgs of food.

The 30 challenges she set herself included reading upside down, reading a book with no pictures (called “The Book with No Pictures”!) and five books in one sitting.

She was sponsored for all these challenges by family, friends and teachers from her school at St Andrews.  When asked why she chose the Foodbank, Thea replied “Because I wanted to help people who didn’t have enough food.”

Sue Weightman, Manager of Taunton Foodbank, said “I am always amazed by the generosity of the local community but this initiative from a six year old girl called Thea Miles really wowed us.

Her contribution alone outweighed, literally, the donations from whole schools and churches so well done for not only discovering the joy of reading a good book but giving to those less fortunate.”
